Safety Vests Imply To America People Are Still Used And Enjoy Life
Americans have become accustom to the cautions of neon orange, green and yellow high visibility vests. It all happened silently as the highly visible colors alerted drivers to slow down in cities and on roads across the nation. The trend was implemented first by industry with standards set by ANSI (American National Standards Institute). Eventually the Federal and state governments followed suit for their employees. Sports enthusiasts enjoying the roads also adopted the idea.
Hunters don the blaze orange color by law today when hunting game in the woods on their safety t-shirt. These sportsmen are easily seen by other hunters in the same vicinity that might mistake their movements for those of a deer or other large game. In fact the hunters were very concerned the bright orange apparel would hinder the sport they enjoy. Some researchers began a study to determine the colors that deer could see. It turns out deer cannot detect the neon orange and in fact, they are more likely to spot the hunter by scent and movement.
A sports enthusiast who walks, runs or hikes is obliged to wear the protective sleeveless waistcoat. Safety risks are substantially lowered by the increased visibility of people who enjoy the sports along or across highways. The retro-reflective gear better ensures safety for runners in marathons and cyclists on rides along the open highways.
In 2008, a Federal regulatory act required media personnel, who are on rights-of-way belonging to the federal government, to wear the protective and bright colored vests. Many states have also followed suit and require the brightly colored clothing article for media and workers on their state roads as well. The regulation is late in coming to the media workers but it must have been successful enough to prompt their inclusion.
A search for statistics to prove the success of these protective waistcoats with retro-reflective colors is found in one area that values the safety gear for employees. A successful difference has been documented for Police Officers who wear blue bulletproof safety vests with light blue retro-reflectors. The number of Police Officers killed by firearms greatly decreased in 2009. The count of 3000 officer’s represents the number of our men in blue who were saved by wearing the protective vest.
The cities flaunt their people in yellow and orange as they work and play everyday. The road workers, paramedics, cyclists, traffic directors, and school crossing guards in our own towns have been marked with high visibility colors. Each day they remind the cities that safety is important to the masses. The people include children, construction workers, firemen, policemen, and first responders.
The safety gear is sold to be worn based on the level of protection needed. Class one is a color that is approved for low visibility that workers wear when slow traffic is passing. Class two is a color with intermediate level visibility when traffic travels at a minimum speed of 25 mph. The color for highest visibility is worn by employees exposed to traffic going 50 mph or greater. The visibility is determined by the strength or brightness if the color.
In conclusion, safety vests and safety tee shirts, have become a part of the scenery in the US, which prompts people to remember to drive carefully. It is certain that most times, the brilliant colored waistcoats in neon orange or yellow are worn by workers around roads both federal and state. America’s sports enthusiasts also bear the retro-reflective clothing in the woods, marathons and bike races. So heed to the neon orange, green and yellow the next time the colors catch your eye.
